Polar Rock Repository Antarctic rock samples plywood storage / transport crate with rope handles measuring approx. 12" x 18" x 12" tall. Since 1957, researchers at The Ohio State University have conducted Antarctic field research to understand the geological history of the continent and ice sheets. In preparation for expeditions, scientists would build these boxes at the US Antarctic Program's McMurdo Station. Going into the field, the rock boxes would hold field gear, food or other supplies and then be filled with rock samples throughout the expedition. Color and condition vary, see photo to evaluate.
